Last night, at the SA Engineering Excellence Awards dinner, Flinders' Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Karen Reynolds, was named as South Australia's Professional Engineer of the Year for 2010.

The Professional Engineer of the Year award acknowledges a professional engineer who has reached a high level of achievement and involvement in engineering and community affairs and who is an example of outstanding engineering practice, ethics and contribution to the community. Previous winners include Andrew Fletcher, CEO of Defence SA, David Klingberg AO, former Chancellor of the University of South Australia, and Jim White, Managing Director, Centrex Metals Ltd.

Karen's cv is impressive. She is a Fellow of Engineers Australia, Convenor and chair of Engineers Australia's National Panel for Biomedical Engineering Education and Research, a member of the Medical Device Evaluation Committee within the Therapeutic Goods Administration, Director of the Medical Device Partnering Program and Deputy Dean of the School. Students have flourished under her supervision, and have themselves been inspired to achieve excellence.

She now goes forward to represent South Australia in the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards in Canberra.
